“Great Chinese food and a great value”
Reviewed July 16, 2013
This was our third choice for a meal our first evening in Gunnison, having found a highly recommended restaurant (the Gunnisack) closed, then having waited for seating at an understaffed steak house across the street from the Gunnisack so long that we gave up and left. After the excellent meal we received at the House of China, my wife and I agree that it should have been our first choice all along. The food was excellent, the value great, the service fast and cheerful, and the serving sizes quite generous. (My wife got a big second meal from the two takeout boxes we filled with our leftovers.) We look forward to returning. ~ AnnArborMiBob
“Good Food, Good Prices”

The owner does the cooking. I look forward to stopping there each time I am in Gunnison. The hot and sour soup is great. The food is good and plentiful. Lunchtime prices are low. Its hard to beat this combination of good food and good price. ~ Jim H
"Everything about the House of China was very good. The restaurant was clean and inviting. There was no buffet which is a plus in my opinion. The food was hot and cooked to order. Everything from the soup to the entrees was outstanding. I don't think you'll find any better food in Gunnison. I haven't had Chinese food this good in a long time." ~ LHS66 8/5/2011
"Unexpectedly from the outside great food on the inside. Real chinese people cooking and serving. Choice of soup with wonton, spring roll and entree (big enough for 2) all for $6. We were very surprised. Excellent food and nice people. We had the Hot & Spicy Chicken , Empress Chicken , Lemon Chicken- ALL WERE GREAT." ~ mkmFayetteville_AR 12/28/2010

"House of China is my go to place for Chinese in Gunni! The food isn't greasy like some other places. I'd recommend anything in garlic sauce but if you're like me you order sesame chicken every time. It's crisp and delicious like it should be. Definitely get an aku bowl! It's a big punch bowl of alcohol and fruit juice (but mostly alcohol) that comes with straws for sharing. They even will light it on fire if you ask. If you're looking for good american style Chinese food in Gunnison, look no further." ~ Corinne P. 5/26/2011

I had been to eat there several times and liked the food. So when we had a big feast we used their back room and they cooked about a dozen dishes for us. Excellent food and very reasonably priced. The owner and his family are nice. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the building is a bit shabby on the outside and one of the people there brings down the ambience a bit. Otherwise it is great and, for me, easily the best Chinese food in town! ~ Jim Worrall
